NFL in the UK

Saturday, September 28'13:

Heathrow Connect, a surface train service, links Heathrow International Airport to Paddington station. My bed and breakfast location was right next to the Hayes and Harlington Rail Station. So, my trip to central London was just a sixteen minute ride.

During the trip, some British commuters rode the train politely wearing NFL team jerseys. I spoke briefly with a young Brit sitting across from me in the train. He was wearing a New England Patriot jersey with a number 12 on it. I asked him if he was going to the Steeler-Viking game on Sunday, "Yes," he said, "I have been going to the games for five years." "How much did the ticket cost you?" "150 pounds [US$240] for two games," he replied. "Last night," I replied, "In a pub near the Savoy Theatre, a guy tried to sell me a ticket to the Steelers-Vikings game at Wembley Stadium for 150 pounds!" So, he had doubled the price of the ticket. I declined his offer.

My conversation with the Patriot fan lasted only five minutes. Then we got out of the tube at Paddington. At Paddington, I took the Bakerloo line (the brown line on the maps) to Piccadilly Circus. When I walked from the tube to street level at Piccadilly Circus, I was to encounter a street celebration which was a pleasant surprise.

A special event called, "NFL on Regent Street," immediately got my attention when I reached street level at Piccadilly Circus. So, I stopped to enjoy the celebration and the music.

The Super Bowl trophy was on display in a large, black tractor truck and trailer. As I stood to view this small, ordinary trophy, a troupe of NFL All-Star Cheerleaders appeared on the gridiron for a dance performance.

Later during the day in central London, it was fascinating to see NFL fans sightseeing in central London before the Sunday Pittsburg Steeler and Viking game at Wembley Stadium. Lots of fans proudly wore NFL jerseys on the streets of central London! I predict London will have its own NFL team within three to five years.

This little guy throwing the football to his Dad will be a player soon!
