Typhoon Soulik hit Taipei's international airport just before my arrival!

On August 26, 2012, my flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Lima, Peru, soared over Hurricane Issac. At the time, I was very concerned about the flight. I was alarmed at times. However, the jetliner ride was bumpy only for five minute intervals during my passage between Florida and Cuba. So, by and large, the flight was uneventful and just like any other flight.

On July 14'13, I re-lived this experience! Air China and Cathay Pacific and a few other airlines had diverted and postponed flights for Saturday. But, EVA was silent. So, I called EVA telling them about other airline responses to the typhoon. However, EVA remained firm in its decision to fly into Taipei on Sunday!

As a result, my EVA Airways flight from Vancouver landed at Taipei, Taiwan, on July 14 at 7 am. It was only 24 hours after Typhoon Soulik struck Taipei!

After the aircraft landed, I was amazed to learn that it was just like another day at the airport. There was no sign of damage to the airport nor was flooding an issue!
